The 61st International Light Tackle Tournament was held in Acapulco, Mexico, Oct. 28 - Nov. 1. Fishing the calm waters off Acapulco Bay, 36 Anglers released 338 sailfish in 4 days on 20lb. line. Club Nautico de San Juan with 47 releases was the winner of the coveted "Big Belt". Led by Carlos Barnes 1st. place individual angler with 18 releases, Charlie Donato 3rd place angler and Humberto Donato . 2nd place team was Club Nautico de Guatemala, anglers Julio Mansylla, Antonio Kozino, Carlos Fortuny and 3rd. place team Port Aransas Rod and Reel, anglers John Price, Bill Easum and Dan Heil. Andre Wentzel fishing for SADSAA from South Africa was 2nd. Place individual angler. This year's event was hosted by The Sailfish and Tarpon Club of Mexico with Javier Padilla chairman, a second-generation ILTTA angler and tournament chairman, and assisted by his uncle Monty Padilla.
